Well, we are off to the races now! Here is the Greek Christmas Bread, which is a variation of a larger category of Greek celebration breads which are collectively referred to as Artos. This bread is basically a giant hot cross bun. The dough is well spiced and flavoured with orange and almond extracts. Eggs, olive oil, milk and honey enrich the dough to add flavour and increase shelf life. The Christopsomos version also has dried cranberry, cherry, raisins, and toasted walnuts. The decorative cross on top is the traditional presentation. Mine is also covered with a candied citrus glaze, making for a hearty breakfast or afternoon snack.
